You are planning to attend an Immersion I – and are wondering what to expect. First of all, we want you to know how excited we are that you are planning to go through the Immersion process. We believe it has the potential of being a life-changing experience in your life. One of the things you should know is that the process begins before you even get here.

Expectation #1
You can expect that we will pray for you.

Our entire team of Facilitators, Co-Facilitators, Observers, and Coordinators

are praying for your church, your team and for you personally.

We begin from the moment you register,

and continue throughout the Immersion process.

We are praying that God will use us in your lives.

We are praying that God will prepare you for the process.

We are asking God to reveal himself to all of us.

And most of all,  that He will be glorified in all we do.

Expectation #2
You can expect to spend some time in a large group setting.

We have a few large group sessions spread throughout

the two day training. You may notice that the people leading these

sessions are not always polished.  They may be wearing jeans and

a t-shirt. They may not refer to the original greek word in

a text to explain it’s meaning.  We use volunteers and staff members

to lead these sessions, and they speak more out of a hands on

experience with discipleship than they do Bible degrees.

Expectation #3
You can expect to spend most of your time in a small group.

Small groups are relational and require participation.

And those are two important components of discipleship.

The more you are willing to share and be transparent in these small groups,

the more you will gain from this experience.

Expectation #4
You can expect to be challenged.

We believe God’s word teaches us not to run or shrink back from tough issues.

There may be things you hear or see that you are not sure you agree with.

Ask us those questions. Don’t be afraid to ask for further information or

clarification. Don’t be afraid to disagree with us about something!

But at the same time, be open to what God may be wanting

you to look at or examine in your own life or relationships.

Expectation #5
You can expect opportunities to engage with God’s people here at Real Life Ministries.

On each day of the Immersion 1,  we provide a fabulous lunch prepared and

served by volunteers. There are different RLM staff members and ministry

heads hosting each table. You can choose to sit at a table representing a

ministry you are interested in. You will get information about how discipleship

is working real time in their ministry.

On Thursday night we have a list of home groups in the area that you can go

visit to see first-hand how our home groups work.

On Friday after lunch there will be a Q & A time with Jim Putman, and you can feel

free to ask questions during that too.

And lastly, on Friday night you are more than welcome

to come to one of our two church services to see how discipleship comes

into play when the church body all comes together.

We are eagerly looking forward to you taking part in this training,

and getting to know you as we work together to understand and implement

Gods will for his Church and Kingdom.

This is something that I am very interested in doing but curious if the fee to join can ever be waived. I am currently unemployed and have a family of five to take care of and so financially it is difficult. Just curious is all. Lord bless you all for the wonderful work you do for the Lord.

Thank you so much for your interest! We rarely have a person come to Immersion I on their own. It is generally a church sending a team of staff members and/or volunteers. I would encourage you to talk to your home church leaders about the Immersion I training, and see if they would be willing to send a group from their church and include you. Please feel free to give us a call if you have more questions, and again, thank you for your interest and comment!

  2. Our pastoral staff of 5 will be coming to the April Immersion 1 event. We’ve had, and will continue to have, bi-weekly meetings in preparation for getting the most out of our time spent with you. We have prepared a list of questions which I’d love to get into the hands of our Small Group facilitator in advance. All of them focus on intentional discipleship in an existing church (not a plant). Can you help me identify our host so we can begin a pre-arrival dialogue?
    Thanks! –Bob

Our coordinator received the list of questions you sent. She will be sure it gets into the right hands. Thanks so much and we look forward to meeting you in April!
